On the 12th of August 2024, I conducted my microteaching session with Grade 7 learners, covering the topic of The Moon in Natural Science. To make the lesson engaging and fun, I started with a quick recap of the previous lesson on the planets. Wanting to capture the learners' attention, I incorporated their interest in current trends by performing the recap as a rap to the instrumental of Not Like Us by Kendrick Lamar, a popular song at the time. The energy this brought into the virtual classroom helped hook the learners right from the start.

I followed this up with an icebreaker activity where students were asked a set of questions about the moon. They jotted down their answers on sticky notes using a Canva mind map, which allowed me to quickly assess their prior knowledge. This interactive approach encouraged participation and prepared them for the new content.

The lesson itself was supported by vibrant, engaging slides. Throughout, I made sure to ask questions and involve the students directly, keeping them active and ensuring they understood the material. My goal was to make sure no learner felt left behind. I encouraged them to interact with the slides, reinforcing the key concepts and keeping them involved in the learning process.

Reflecting on the feedback from my peers, I am confident that the lesson was thoughtfully designed and delivered in a way that was captivating for the learners. The blend of music, creativity, and interactive learning made them feel included and engaged, achieving a balance between fun and educational rigor.

This is a very fun, interactive and engaging way of teaching content to the learners and keeping them constantly focused on what is being taught. Well done!!
